Today's Affirmation

"Today I will make a conscious effort to meditate for a few minutes.  I will breathe deeply, release tension and stress, and enjoy the feeling of peace and relaxation."

Yesterday, while I was sitting in the waiting room of the doctor's office, the television was broadcasting Dr. Oz's program.  Although I know who Dr. Oz is, I have never watched his program or accessed his website.  But what caught my attention, was that the topic of he and his guests were discussing was a subject very important to me:  Meditation.

Not only do I meditate regularly, I have been teaching meditation for years, am currently teaching a meditation class.  Nonetheless...

Dr. Oz's program focused on the scientific studies being done on meditation.  I was, of course, immediately intrigued.  The research includes comparing the brains of those who meditate and those who do not meditate regularly.  MRI's were done, and the results were telling.  The brains of those who meditate regularly were shown to have much more oxygen circulating throughout the brain, particularly in the front area.

Another study revealed that meditation clearly lowers blood pressure.

From personal experience, I can testify to this.  Meditation not only helps to improve overall physical health, it also can forge pathways which allow us to access higher knowledge and wisdom, and to better see the connections among all things.  It offers us the opportunity to explore ideas and make a higher spiritual connection.  It makes us better people overall.

So, dear friends...Sit comfortable with your feet flat on the floor and your hands in your lap palms up.

Take deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth.  Let your body release its stress and tension and let your mind release its chatter.

Just sit and breath and relax.  You don't have to think about anything special at all.  Just concentrate on the breath.

Do this for a few minutes, any amount of time will be a benefit to you.  When you feel ready, take a deep breath, stretch your body, and open your eyes.  You will feel relaxed and renewed and more focused.

Have a wonderful day!

In Love and Light,
Robin

P.S. I am traveling to a wedding upstate later today, and I will not be here to blog over the weekend, but my thoughts will be with all of you.  Live positively and with conscious awareness!  See you on Monday!
